Sesar Canyon

Date:  August 11, 2013 8:30 pm
Hikers:  Beth, Laura and Nathan
Dogs:  Lucy, Bodee and Anabelle
Elevation Gain: 1,115 FT
Length Round Trip: 5.50 Miles

Access:  Take Highway 150 to Sesar Canyon Road and go north until you reach the water tower.  It is a very narrow one lane road so pull out for approaching cars.  Park where you can along the road.

Sesar is a narrow canyon with a forest service road that serves as the trail.  It's a steady incline the whole way.  We were struck by how dry the hillsides are, but even though the creek is dry until the second creek crossing, the creek flora is still green.  We were on a steady pace up the road when Bodee started barking at a large man coming downhill and he was carrying a gun - OY VEY!  We got around that obstacle!

There is still a little water in the creek in the upper reaches and were took the secluded path at the lookout switchback in the coolness of the creek to see the waterfall and it was really worth it.  The dogs just love the water and it's sad that most of our hikes these days are dry.  We made it to the Lookout, about 2.25 miles, and if you continue on for another mile or so you will come to White Ledge Camp.  It's a hot dry hike up the road so do it on a cold winter day - that's our plan!
