Yosemite Falls Hike

Hikers: Beth & Jordan
Mileage: 11 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 3000 ft

Well there are some things that just have to be accomplished and since I've been visiting Yosemite for the last 53 years it was just beyond acceptance that I had never been to the top of Yosemite Falls! We couldn't convince Steve or Allie or Nathan to join us so Jordan and I headed out early Thursday morning and were the only two people on the shuttle bus from Curry. We had an astonishing encounter with the bus driver, Carol, who is a masquerading botanist, knew Carl Sharsmith and Davie Gaines, and had all kinds of tips to give us on the trek in front of us.

Carol dropped us off at Camp 4, the old mountaineering camp, and we scouted out the trail. It begins in an oak forest winding up the slope to Columbia Rock where you get an impressive view of the Valley and Half Dome.

Jordan on the beginning of the trail.
Columbia Rock

The trail was pretty steep, had a lot of rocky steps and was unrelenting.
A view of the snow cone from above.
At long last the top and a trail sign - the Tioga Road is 12 miles!
The ledge I am on at the top looking down into the Valley. I'm waiting for Jordan to return from the platform that is hanging onto the side of the ledge overlooking the falls.
